Trip to Amsterdam - Preparation

As always, I leave it to the last moment to prepare. As the title suggests, I'm off to Amsterdam with my wife, Clemencia, for 4 days. We are travelling tomorrow, flying to Amsterdam from Inverness. Our quick preparation included the following...

1. Pack our bags.We like travelling light. See my bag below. I always leave some space in my bag in case I decide to buy something, e.g. a small present, a piece of clothing, etc.

Minimum clothes, my camera and computer.

2. Some research about what we wanted to see/and do over three full days when we are in Amsterdam. We agreed that the minimum we will see/do would include...

- Ann Frank House
- Van Gogh Museum
- Biblical Museum
- De Appel Arts Centre

- One canal cruise
- Visit The Python Bridge and other bridges
- See and experience architecture in few parts of Amsterdam
- Use public transport to experience different parts of the city

After some research, we decided to buy Amsterdam City cards for for 72 hours. You can buy on-line, collect the code and get the cards at the airport. See the photo below...

The city card allows one to enter many museums, galleries. It also
includes canal cruises and use of public transport. Some restaurants
offer discount with the card

3. Keep the essentials ready including passport, money, mobile. Also camera, computer, boarding passes, info and directions to our accommodation. Passport, yes, very important. I remember, about 10 years ago, I was going to Spain on holiday with my family. We were in a queue to check in. There were two young friends in front of us...unfortunately one of them had forgotten to bring his passport. Did he got on the plane? You guessed it. No!

Some of the essentials...
My next blog will be on our experience of Day 1. It would be about travelling to Inverness, flight to Amsterdam and a train journey to our accommodation. Days 2, 3 and 4 will include our experience of Amsterdam.
